Chocolate chip cookies will forever be one of my favorite desserts (right behind ice cream, of course). Do a simple Google search for 'chocolate chip cookies' and you will find thousands of recipes. Some are your traditional take on a chocolate chip cookie, some have very different ratios of sugar, butter, flour, and chocolate. Other recipes have a unique technique incorporated in them, or a special, non-traditional ingredient.
With so many recipes floating around out there, I am dedicated...I mean REALLY dedicated...to finding my all time favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. While I'm in search of THE BEST chocolate chip cookie on the Internet, I'm going to document all the recipes that I try. Naturally, each recipe will be rated on a scale of 1 - 10 using chocolate chip cookie emojis?. As I continue to try more recipes, I'll add them to the list!
I'd love to hear your opinions! If you try any of the cookies below, let me know your rating! I'm interested to see if you have different thoughts. If you have an amazing chocolate chip cookie recipe that I need to try, submit your recipe so you can be featured on the master list!
What's Gaby Cooking - The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
Let me start out by saying this recipe suggests that you refrigerate the dough for 72 hours. Yes, you heard me correctly. You are somehow supposed to leave cookie dough in your fridge for 72 hours without eating it all! IF you can do that, the wait is worth it! The resting time allows the flavors to meld together and gives the cookie a special, rich flavor. You definitely need to prepare ahead of time if you are wanting to try this full recipe.
Browned Butter Blondie - Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies
This recipe is not for bakers like me...aka lazy bakers who aren't always 100% precise when following other people's recipes. However, this time I actually followed the instructions to a t. Let me tell you, sticking to the directions was a good call! The mixture of all-purpose flour and bread flour is genius. It yields the perfect mix of a soft, yet slightly crunchy cookie. The recipe also suggests beating the butter and sugar extra long, which I think contributed to the amazing texture.
New York Times Giant Crinkled Chocolate Chip Cookies
I cannot say enough good things about this recipe. Holy cow - they are AMAZING! Part of me wants to give this a '10' rating...but like...can I give a '10' rating without trying all the chocolate chip cookie recipes out there?? This recipe is straightforward and easy to follow. I have to admit that it gets tiring constantly banging the cookie pan to flatten the cookies (especially because you can really only fit 3 cookies on one sheet try). However, it's totally worth the end product! I've also tried this with Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free One to One Baking flour and they work great!
Homebody Eats - Double Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
Without being too bias, I'd say the combination of the browned butter and creamy peanut butter make a very flavorful twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie. If you aren't a fan of peanut butter, or have an allergy, the peanut butter can also be removed and the recipe is still just as delicious! These cookies are the perfect combination of soft, chewy, and rich. If you can wait 24 hours for the dough to refrigerate, they will be even better!
Olive and Artisan - Olive Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies
For my fellow olive oil loving friends, you are going to love these cookies. The olive oil keeps the cookies super soft. To the point that the completed dough looks almost too wet. Have faith though, they turn out perfectly soft and chewy! The oil olive isn't prominent when you first take a bite. It is more of an undertone flavor. This recipe makes the perfect amount of cookies!
Alison Roman - Salted Chocolate Chunk Shortbread Cookies
These viral cookies (often touted as #thecookies on Instagram) were worth the hype. If you prefer a less sugary version of the traditional chocolate chip cookie, then try this one out! If you're looking for that classic chewy, soft chocolate chip cookie, this is not it. It definitely has a shortbread texture. Overall, a win in my book!
Meaningful Eats - The Best Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
Is it wrong to assume that a gluten free cookie is not going to taste as delicious as its gluten filled counter part?? Well, let me tell you, you can't event tell this cookie is gluten free. Seriously!! The brown butter in this recipe gives the cookies a deep, caramelized flavor (yum)! I'm a big fan of the gluten free all-purpose flour and almond flour combination. We shared these with (non gluten free) friends and they couldn't tell the difference. Try these - you won't be disappointed!
Clean Eating with a Dirty Mind - Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches
While I haven't ever made the ice cream part of this recipe, this was the first gluten free cookie I ever tried to bake after my husband discovered he had a gluten intolerance. These cookies are definitely on the healthier side, but I love them for that reason. They use very simple ingredients, and the only gluten free flour required is almond flour. This recipe makes a fairly small batch of cookies, which I appreciate so I don't shove cookies in my face for a week straight. I keep going back to this recipe which means it has to be a good gluten free, health-ish alternative!
The Big Man's World - Best Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies (Paleo, Vegan, Keto)
These cookies come together really fast! The recipe is super simple and there is no refrigerating the dough (win)! I chose to use honey as my sticky sweetener of choice. Overall, you could definitely tell these were gluten free. They felt like a healthy cookie rather than an indulgence. If you're a fan of coconut, you will probably approve. If not, I'd steer away because you can definitely taste the coconut oil that comes through.
