    Ingredients You Need

The best part about this flavored gin martini recipe is that you only need three ingredients.

blood orange and pomegranate gin martini ingredients with labels.
    • London dry gin: Arguably one of the most well-known and iconic gins is the London dry style. From the name, you can probably tell this gin originated in England; however, nowadays, London dry gin is produced all over the world.

London dry has a strong juniper and citrus taste. This is usually the type of gin people prefer in martinis. Don't forget to check out my video about gin basics for beginners. You'll learn what makes gin special and the various styles of gin.
    • Blood oranges: This winter citrus adds not only a sweet taste to the cocktail but also a fun and beautiful color. Freshly squeezed citrus is one of my favorite ingredients to add to cocktails. If you can't find blood oranges (since they're only in season from November to May), you can also substitute with another variety of orange.
    • Pomegranate juice: The tartness of the pomegranate juice adds a unique balance to the cocktail.

    How to Make This Recipe

If you've never made a martini at home, you'll be surprised to learn how easy it is to mix up this cocktail.

four numbered photos showing how to make a blood orange gin martini.

    1. Step one starts before you begin making the martini. Place your cocktail mixing glass and martini glass in the freezer for 30 - 60 minutes before mixing up this drink. Doing this will ensure you have an ice-cold martini, which is a very unique and delicious cocktail experience.

Once everything is nice and chill, add the London dry gin to the cocktail mixing glass.

    2. Next, add the blood orange and pomegranate juice.

    3. Using a bar spoon, stir the martini together for about 30 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.

    4. Finally, strain the drink using both a hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer. The hawthorne strainer holds back the large ice cubes, while the mesh strainer catches any ice chips. This results in a silky smooth martini texture.

Optionally, garnish the cocktail with a thin slice of blood orange.

    Expert Tips

    • To keep your martini nice and cold, put your martini glass and mixing glass in the freezer for 30- 60 minutes before making the cocktail.
    • If the martini is too strong for your liking, add in additional blood orange and pomegranate juice until the desired taste is reached.
    • For a mocktail version of this drink, substitute gin for a lemon-lime soda or sparkling water.

    Recipe FAQs

What's your favorite brand of gin?

The brand of gin you use in a cocktail depends on your personal taste and preferences. There's no right or wrong answer as long as you like the taste. I prefer to use a London dry gin such as Tanqueray or Esmé.

Can I use orange juice instead of blood oranges?

This dry gin martini recipe will also work with orange juice; however, the cocktail will taste sweeter.

I don't have martini glasses. What glassware should I serve this cocktail in?

The key to a good martini is keeping it really cold. If you don't have a martini glass, use another type of glassware that has a stem, like a wine glass. You want to avoid touching the glass with your hands and heating up the cocktail.

Absolutely love this recipe but made my own variation:
      - 1 + 1/2 ounces orange-infused Vodka (Grey Goose preferred)
      - 2 ounces blood orange juice
      - 1 ounce pomegranate juice

Throw it all in a chilled martini shaker with ice, shake, strain into a chilled martini glass.

The only problem is how easy either version goes down so you are going to want to drink multiple -- watch out!
