Ingredients You Need
There's only one ingredient you need for this recipe, a high-quality white chocolate bar. To select the best type of chocolate for this recipe, you'll want a bar with 20% - 30% cocoa butter content or higher.
Some of my favorite good quality chocolate brands include Callebaut, Guittard, or Valrhona. That being said, even brands like Lindt chocolate will still work for this recipe!
I do not suggest using generic store-bought white chocolate chips (or discs) for this recipe. It will not turn out the same.
How To Make This Recipe
Here's how my method for making caramelized white chocolate differs from others. There's no stirring or scraping the chocolate while it's cooking. Let me show you what to do!
1. Line a light colored baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Place the chocolate in a single layer on the baking sheet.
2. Next, bake for 15 - 20 minutes in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven, until the chocolate is a solid deep-golden brown color. You don't want the chocolate to look or smell burnt (you've cooked it too long if this happens). Once properly cooked, the white chocolate should have a nutty, caramel like smell.
3. Then, allow chocolate to cool and roughly chop, and use it as you desire. Keep scrolling for all of my favorite ways to use this in desserts.
That's it! See, I told you it was super easy to make this decadent flavor chocolate at home.
Expert Tips
- Don't use a dark-colored sheet pan, the chocolate will cook faster and could easily become burnt.
- To ensure your oven is heating properly, use an oven thermometer. This will help with even cooking.
- The chocolate can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dark place, until ready to use. The chocolate will last for 1 - 2 months if stored correctly.
Recipe FAQs
It has notes of caramel as well as a toasty, almost nutty taste. It's not the same as eating a white chocolate bar since the flavor appears less sweet once it's caramelized in the oven.
Unfortunately, if you burned the chocolate, you'll need to start over. There's no going back after it's already burned.
While the caramelized white chocolate does have some crunch to it, it shouldn't have an unpleasant, grainy texture. This is likely an indication that your chocolate was not high-quality.
